General name given to several genera of birds in the family Laniidae, order Passeriformes, including Laniarius, Telophorus, and Malaconotus. They are confined to Africa and are some of the most brightly coloured birds to be found there. They exhibit great variability in colour and are very difficult to separate taxonomically.
